October opens with one conference matchup
One conference matchup highlights another four-game slate in the ACFC on October 6. Frostburg State visits Wesley College for the ACFC matchup, while Morrisville State visits Apprentice School, SUNY Brockport goes to St. John Fisher and Salisbury travels to Geneva.
ACFC in Non-Conference Action
In 2006, the ACFC did more than hold its own against non-conference competition as the teams went a combined 22-12 in those games. Wesley College was 9-1 and Apprentice School went 5-1. The 22 wins equals the second most non-conference wins in a single season in the history of the Atlantic Central Football Conference. In 2005, ACFC teams went 23-12 in non-conference action.

FROSTBURG STATE NOTES
Frostburg State University hits the road for the fifth-straight week to face No.14 Wesley ... For the second-straight week the Bobcats look to rain on their opponents homecoming festivities ... Frostburg State enters the game looking for their second win of the season and first in conference play ... This is the first conference game for Wesley this season, but their overall record stands at 4-1 ... FSU leads the all-time series 9-5 but the Wolverines have won the last three meetings by a combined score of 89-17 ... Frostburg State's last win came in 2003 with a 42-39 overtime victory ... Last weekend, the Bobcats fell to NCAA Division I Duquesne 37-10 while Wesley shut out Huntingdon (Ala.) 28-0 ... Wesley has won two-straight Atlantic Central Football Conference titles ... The FSU offensive line comes in ranked third in the country with the least sacks allowed (0.5 per game) ... Frostburg State is 68th in the NCAA Division III ranks in rushing (198.0) and senior tailback Shanorm Young is also 68th in rushing yards per game (98.0) ... Wesley has the second best rush defense in the ACFC and the best pass offense... Senior wide receiver Fred Howze continues on his streak of consecutive games with a reception which currently stands at 25 ... Head coach Rubin Stevenson has 30 wins during his career with the Bobcats and he needs just four more victories to become the schools' all-time winningest coach ... WESLEY NOTES
Wesley is just 5-9 all-time against Frostburg State, but has fared well in recent years. The Wolverines have won the past three meetings by a combined score of 89-17...Three current Wesley players rank among the top 10 on the school's all-time touchdown reception list. Senior Michael Clarke needs just two more TD receptions to tie the school record and is currently tied for fourth career scoring grabs. Junior Larry Beavers is sixth with 19 career touchdown catches and Jon Lanouette, a senior, is tied for ninth with 13. Mike Pennewell leads the ACFC in yards/game by nearly 40 yards (130.8) and rates 16th in Division III. More impressive, his yardage total on the ground is fifth in D3. Pennewell has established a new career high in rushing yards three times in the first four games of the season and has rushed for 100 yards in three straight games...Cornerback Chet Turner leads the ACFC and ranks 17th in the nation in interceptions with four (0.8/game). With 1.8 passes defended per game, Turner is 29th in D3...Beavers currently leads the ACFC and ranks seventh in Division III at 33.9 yards per kick return. Eric Lowry, who joins Beavers on kick return duties, is 34th in Division III at 26.5 ypr, and the team rates fourth at 30.11...Last week, the Wolverines held Huntingdon (Ala.) to a negative two yards rushing, the lowest total for an opponent since holding SUNY Morrisville to minus-27 yards on November 11 of last season. More impressive was holding Huntingdon to just 126 total yards. It was the team's best performance since Husson accumulated just 105 yards of offense on October 25, 2003...The Wolverines blocked a pair of field goal attempts last week. Gabe Tranchetti blocked an attempt in the first quarter, and freshman Teron Murray followed suit on the Hawks' second try...Clarke is just eight catches shy of becoming the seventh Wolverine with 100 career catches. If he tallies those eight catches, along with another 115 yards and one TD grab, Clarke will become just the fourth player in school history with 100 catches, 2,000 yards and 25 TDs...RB Alpha Koroma enters the Huntingdon contest needing just nine yards to enter the school's career top 10 (1,081). He is also just one rushing touchdown (11) short of the top 10, as well...Bryan Robinson is closing in on the school record for quarterback sacks. With 39.5, he ranks third on Wesley's list, but is just 4.5 short of the record.

Apprentice School enters the game after falling 62-14 at Salisbury University on Saturday. ... This is the second meeting between the Mustangs and the Builders as Apprentice School defeated Morrisville State 21-13 on October 7, 2006 in Morrisville, NY. ... In that game senior QB Kyle Franklin was 15-of-21 for 139 yards and one touchdown as the Builders blocked an extra-point attempt in the third quarter and scored on a 15-yard Bruce Freeman run in the fourth for the win. ... Builder senior WR Travis Reid became the second receiver in the last 25 years to go over 2,000 yards for his career as he had 67 yards in receptions against Emory & Henry. He now has 2,172 yards for his career and is 382 yards from the school record. ... Senior DB Franako Smith tied fellow senior Tony Scott for the modern era record in career interceptions with his 11th in the first quarter against Emory & Henry. Scott blocked his 11th kick which was returned 41 yards by Joe Bruce for the final touchdown in that game as well.

The Golden Eagles are coming off a 34-14 loss at Ithaca College last Saturday dropping the Golden Eagles to 2-2 on the season... In the loss, Brockport's rushing attack was held to only 52 yards on 33 carries while giving up 189 yards on the ground to the Bombers... QB Zack Luke passed for 60 yards before leaving early in the second quarter with an injury... Luke has compiled 2,921 and is now only 79 yards away from 3,000 career yards... Combined, the RB combo of Garet Lynch and Matt McCormick has 640 yards on the ground this season... St. John Fisher is coming off a 31-28 upset loss at Hartwick last Saturday... This will be the 18th meeting between the two schools dating back to 1989 when Brockport won the first ever meeting 36-15 at Fisher... The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series 14-3 and are 9-3 under head coach Rocco Salomone... Brockport won the first 14 meetings but have dropped the last three to the Cardinals by a combined score of 92-66... Overall, Brockport is 7-1 at Fisher and 5-1 in the Salomone era... In the game last year, the Golden Eagles came four yards short of tying the game as McCormick stepped out of bounds as the time clock expired in the second half... QB Luke completed a school record 29 passes in the loss compiling 277 passing yards... The Golden Eagles are in their 4th and final season in the ACFC before making the move to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in 2008...... Senior DE Dale Buck moved into 5th in school history for career sacks with a sack in the loss to Ithaca... RB Garet Lynch needs only 12 rushing yards to move into 9th in career rushing yards, needs only 61 yards for 7th and 68 yards to move into 7th in career rushing yards in Brockport school history ... RB Matt McCormick needs 177 receiving yards to 1,000 career yards and needs 19 receptions to move into 10th in career catches in Brockport school history... The Golden Eagles are projected to start 8 seniors, 11 juniors, and 3 sophomores on Saturday... The Golden Eagles starting offensive line averages over 307 pounds this season with all five starters over 300 pounds... Brockport will start a true freshman kicker who was perfect on PAT's in his high school career and connected on both PAT's in week one, connected on his only attempt in week two, was 5-5 in the win over Frostburg St., and hit his two attempts in the loss at Ithaca to keep his perfect streak intact...The Golden Eagles will return home to their final two home games of the season when they host Springfield College on Oct. 13 and then nationally ranked Wesley College, who advanced to the NCAA Division III Semi-Finals last season on Oct. 20.

Salisbury travels to Beaver Falls, Pa. to face Geneva College in a non-conference game on Saturday, October 6 at 6 p.m. This is the first meeting between the Sea Gulls and Golden Tornadoes. SU comes into the game with an unblemished 5-0 record while Geneva posts a 4-1 record. ... Last Time Out: The Salisbury University football team defeated ACFC foe Apprentice School 62-14 last Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium. The Sea Gulls had their highest offensive output of the season as the maroon and gold ran for 387 yards and threw for 182 yards for a season-high 565 yards of total offense en route to the 48-point win. Salisbury, who is off to its best start since 2004, ran for 387 yards and scored a season-high 62 points against the Apprentice School. ... The Atlantic Central Football Conference named its weekly Players of the Week for September 29 and Salisbury University senior Jamar Garner earned his second consecutive Offensive Player of the Week award and freshman Chris Ross became the first Sea Gull to garner Rookie of the Week honors this season.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jamar Garner, Sr., RB, Salisbury
The senior turned in his third consecutive two-touchdown game as he ran for 105 yards on 10 carries in #19-Salisbury's 62-14 win over Apprentice School. His 105 yards was the second straight game he broke the 100-yard barrier. He garnered almost half of his yards on his final touchdown midway through the first quarter.
CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mike Pennewell, So., RB, Wesley
The sophomore from Smyrna, De. ran for 149 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown as #17-Wesley defeated Huntingdon, Ala. 28-0. He had no carry for more than 20 yards in route to his third straight 100+-yard outing. Pennewell leads the ACFC in rushing averaging nearly 40 yards more than his nearest competitor.

CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bryan Robinson, Sr., DE, Wesley
The senior from Harrington, De. tied for the team lead with nine tackles as #17 Wesley defeated Huntingdon 28-0. He had four tackles for losses totaling 23 yards and a pair of sacks as Wesley held the Hawks to 126 yards, including a negative two yards rushing.
He was also named to the D3football.com Team of the Week this week.
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dale Buck, Sr., DE, SUNY Brockport
The senior from Oakfield, NY recorded a game-high 16 tackles (5 solo-11 assisted) in SUNY Brockport's 34-14 loss to Ithaca. He also moved into fifth place in career sacks at Brockport with his first quarter sack.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Yvenel Sainsume, So., Wesley
The sophomore from Lincoln, De. topped the kick coverage unit for Wesley with four solo stops on five kickoffs and hold Huntingdon to 16 yards per return in the Wolverines 28-0 win over the Hawks.
