MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Wesley College football team has been ranked ninth in the D3football.com Preseason Top 25.
The final preseason ranking of the summer gave the Wolverines their highest perch entering the 2009 season. Previously, Wesley was ranked 15th by The Sporting News and 11th in the USA Today Sports Weekly 2009 College Football Special Edition.
The Wolverines open the season with a contest against Christopher Newport on September 6. The Captains are rated 20th by D3football.com.
While no other teams on the schedule are ranked in the top 25, Salisbury, Delaware Valley and LaGrange received votes.
The two teams who played for the 2008 NCAA Division III Championship are ranked first and second. Defending national champion Mount Union received 23 of the 25 first place votes and earned the top spot in the rankings. UW-Whitewater picked up the other two first place votes to finish at No. 2.
Wesley finished 2008 with a record of 9-2 and won its fourth consecutive ACFC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III Football Championship Second Round.
